Potent power play pushes Fishermen past Arborg

The Selkirk Fishermen’s power play was working on Sunday afternoon.

Selkirk scored three goals with the man advantage in an entertaining 3-2 home win over the Arborg Ice Dawgs.

Selkirk’s Cale Jonski scored in the first period and then Reece Tessier made it 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Braeden Hummel put Selkirk up 3-0 before Arborg’s Cadrick Dueck, on the power play, and Logan Clarke tallied.

Hummel and Jonski each had two points in the game.

Owen Derewianchuk made 28 saves for the win.

Last Saturday, the Fishermen blasted the North Winnipeg Satelites 6-1 in Selkirk.

Jonski, on the power play, Peyton Moneyas, and Matt Wagner (shorthanded) scored for Selkirk in the first period.

The Fishermen then went ahead 6-0 on goals from Hummel, Travis Spratt, on the power play, and Moneyas.

North Winnipeg’s Jordan Klippenstein scored a power-play goal late in the second period.

Jonski finished the game with three points while Zack Parkinson and Josh Poponick each had two assists.

Selkirk outshot North Winnipeg 48-18 as Brendon Hocaluk earned the win in goal. 

On Feb. 8, Selkirk defeated North Winnipeg 3-1 at the Billy Mosienko Arena.

Tessier scored the game winner in the second period and then he added an insurance marker in the third.

Nolan Milgaard tallied a first-period goal for the Fishermen.

Troy Gutowski scored for North Winnipeg.

Derewianchuk made 27 saves for the win.

Selkirk will play the Ice Dawgs in Arborg on Thursday (7:45 p.m.) and then will host the Lundar Falcons Sunday (3 p.m.).
