Devon Whiteside played his first game of the season for the Selkirk Fishermen on Saturday.
And he made quite the debut.
Whiteside scored three goals to lead Selkirk to a convincing 6-0 road victory over the Lundar Falcons in Capital Region Junior Hockey League action.
Reece Tessier also had a strong game with a goal and two assists while Kyle Folhoffer and Nick Magwood also tallied.
Brendan Hocaluk made 21 saves for the shutout.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Fishermen after the Arborg Ice Dawgs handed Selkirk its first real loss of the season on Friday.
Jack Einarson snapped a 1-1 third-period tie with a pair of goals just 28 seconds apart to lead Arborg to a 3-2 road victory.
Braydon Stevenson scored a first-period goal for the Ice Dawgs while Jordan Donald and Braeden Hummel replied for the Fishermen.
Einarson finished the game with three points.
Brandon Kowalchuk made 32 saves for the win. Fishermen goaltender Owen Derewianchuk stopped 38 Ice Dawgs’ shots.
Selkirk, which was awarded a loss earlier in the season after using an ineligible player, leads the five-team league with 36 points. Arborg is in second place with 24 points.
Selkirk played at the North Winnipeg Satelites on Tuesday but no score was available. The Fishermen will host the St, Malo Warriors on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
