Fishermen, Warriors’ CRJHL final series cancelled

Fishermen, Warriors’ CRJHL final series cancelled

Brian Bowman

The Selkirk Fishermen reached the final of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League for the second year in a row.

But they won’t have a chance to repeat as league champions.

Hockey Canada pulled the plug on all league playoffs across the country late last week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The much-anticipated best-of-seven final series between Selkirk and the St. Malo Warriors never even had a chance to get started.

Selkirk advanced to the final after soundly defeating the Arborg Ice Dawgs 7-0 on March 10. The win gave the Fishermen a series sweep over the Ice Dawgs.

Braeden Hummel had a great game for Selkirk with two goals and two assists while Travis Spratt also tallied twice and Reece Tessier chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Evan Bedard and Chad King also scored for the Fishermen.

Riley Bannerman made 23 saves for the win.
