Fishermen fly past Ice Dawgs

Fishermen fly past Ice Dawgs

Brian Bowman

The Selkirk Fishermen played just one game last week.

But they sure made it count.

Selkirk blasted the Ice Dawgs 6-0 in Arborg on Friday in Capital Region Junior Hockey League action.

Chad King scored a first-period goal and then Travis Spratt, with a pair, Dane Derewianchuk, and Jordan Simko tallied in the second to give the Fishermen a commanding 5-0 lead.

Dane Derewianchuk then closed out the scoring in the third. He had three points in the game along with Spratt and Evan Bedard. Bedard leads with the Fishermen with 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists).

Owen Derewianchuk made 29 saves for the shutout as Selkirk outshot Arborg 55-29. He is a perfect 6-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and two shutouts this season.

Selkirk, now in first place with 60 points (two in front of the St. Malo Warriors), will host Arborg on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and St. Malo in what should be a great game on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) at the Rec Complex.
