The Selkirk Fishermen suffered a rare loss last week.
Selkirk was defeated 5-4 in overtime by the Ice Dawgs in Arborg last Thursday. It was just the Fishermen’s third loss this season and second in overtime.
Josh Roche scored the game winner in OT. It was his third goal and fourth point of the night.
Selkirk’s Kasen Andrushko had tied the score at 4-4 when he tallied with 3:29 remaining in the third period. It was his third point in the game.
That goal came just 28 seconds after Jordan Klippenstein gave the Ice Dawgs the lead.
Selkirk’s Evan Bedard and Evan Leeson each had a goal and an assist. Josh Poponick scored the Fishermen’s other goal.
Logan Clarke also scored for Arborg.
Brendon Hocaluk made 37 saves in the losing cause.
On Dec. 4, the Fishermen blitzed the North Winnipeg Satelites 7-1.
Selkirk took a 3-0 first-period lead on goals by Chad King, Raymond Hefferman, and Jordan Donald and then Poponick made it 4-0 with a second-period tally.
North Winnipeg’s Liam McClintock scored early in the third but Selkirk responded with goals from Travis Spratt, Andrushko and Reece Tessier.
Poponick, Spratt and Donald each finished the game with three points.
Owen Derewianchuk made 28 saves for the win.
Selkirk, now with 39 points in 16 games, will visit the Lundar Falcons this Saturday and will wrap up play for 2019 with a home game against North Winnipeg on Dec. 20. Puck drop for both games is 7:30 p.m.
