Nov 17, 2019 vs. Lundar
The Selkirk Fishermen allowed the Lundar Falcons to take 40 shots on goal Saturday evening.
But Riley Bannerman was definitely up to the task, stopping 39 of those shots in a 6-1 Capital Region Junior Hockey League victory in Lundar.
Nico Morrow-Litke and Jordan Donald scored first-period goals for Selkirk and then the Fishermen went ahead 5-0 with tallies from Reece Tessier, Donald and Josh Poponick.
Donald had a great game, finishing with four points. He now has seven goals and 15 points in just 11 games to sit tied for third in team scoring.
Josh Wilkinson scored Lundar’s lone goal late in the second period. Selkirk’s Braeden Hummel then rounded out the scoring in the third.
Two of the Fishermen’s goals came on the power play while another pair were scored while Selkirk was shorthanded.
Special teams were certainly the difference in the game. Lundar was 0-6 on the power play while Selkirk finished 2-for-6.
The Fishermen are currently in second place in the five-team league with 46 points, four back of the St. Malo Warriors. It’s going to be quite the battle between Selkirk and St. Malo for top spot this season. Both teams have just one loss in regulation time.
Selkirk will host the last-place North Winnipeg Satelites this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Fishermen won’t play again until Jan. 3 when they host the Arborg Ice Dawgs.
